If you’ve been considering switching from smoking to vaping, you may have heard about the wonders of electronic cigarettes. E cigs, as they are often called, heat up a flavored “e liquid” to produce a vapor cloud — essentially turning the device into a tobacco-less, smokeless cigarette. Many people who participate in smoking cessation programs note that the sensation of vaping, or using an e cig, helps them quit tobacco more effectively than chewing nicotine gum or using nicotine patches.
But there is one choice that all who are new to vaping will have to make, and that is the decision between rechargeable and disposable e cigarettes. While there’s no right or wrong answer, it’s important to know what features users get with each option.
Here are some of the fundamental differences between rechargeable and disposable e cigarettes:
Rechargeable E Cigarettes
Rechargeable electronic cigarettes are made to be refilled with e liquid and used again and again. They are recharged by a USB cable and/or wall plug, and their batteries can usually last for several hours. Many users like rechargeable e cigs because they don’t have to purchase a new device again and again.
The startup costs with rechargeable e cigs can be fairly high, and in order to operate, they regularly need to be refilled with e liquid. However, because they can be reused, they may be a more environmental choice for some who don’t want to have to throw away or recycle their e cigs after use. There also tend to be more options and variations when it comes to rechargeable e cigs.
Disposable E Cigarettes
Disposable e cigs don’t come with chargers and typically cannot be refilled once they have been used. However, many e cig users, especially those who are new to vaping, like to use disposable e cigs because they are ready to use right out of the box. They don’t require any special instructions to use, and they don’t need to be filled and refilled.
However, once disposable e cigs have run out of e liquid, they need to be properly disposed of. Fortunately, many companies now offer e cig recycling programs, so these devices won’t end up in the trash. Disposable e cigs may not have as many customized options as rechargeable ones, but this also reduces the amount of confusion new users may experience when making their first e cig purchase.
