Auctions are filled with all sorts of old memorabilia, antiques and vintage collectibles, but if you know when and where to look, you’ll find a myriad of odd, strange, and even downright bizarre items. Oddities have been known to spring up anywhere–in online, private and public auctions alike.

A Piece of Mars.
A Martian meteorite crash landed in 1962 in central Nigeria. A private collector had the 1.3 billion-year-old meteorite’s largest specimen, which weighed about 40 pounds, until it was sold on eBay in 2005. For $450,000, the winner not only got Zagami (which is what the specimen was named), but also received a certificate of authenticity complete with the signature of meteor expert and geologist Dr. John Saul.
Hair of the Bieber.
As part of an eBay charity sale in which the proceeds would go towards an animal rescue foundation, critically acclaimed pop-star and disgraced celebrity Justin Bieber cut a lock of his hair and put it in a signed box. Though beliebers were expected to bid high, no one was ready for the winning bid of $40,668.
Meaning of Life.
Apparently, some philosophical, messianic, eBay user figured what the meaning of life is, and decided to sell it. Though it received eight bids, it didn’t earn much. The winning bid was just $10.50. Of course, if the winner really wanted to know what the meaning of life was, they needed only to have read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Auctions aren’t just for vintage collectible items and antique memorabilia.
