The Knot Gives You Some Pointers On Proposing

Popular wedding planning site and authority The Knot recently shared some of the most notable proposal trends of 2014. From some of the most coveted — and unique — engagements rings to the various ways men and women all over the world are popping the question, the leading site covered it all. Here are some trends to keep in mind if the words “I do” are likely in your future:

What is the Perfect Engagement Ring? The Results Are In!

The Knot revealed some dos and don’ts for choosing a diamond ring. What’s the verdict? Colored diamond engagement rings, such as canary yellow rings, are especially popular right now. “White is all right, but the most exciting engagement rings glow with color, and none is hotter than sunny yellow,” MSN Living explains. “Considered a ‘fancy’ diamond hue, canary is as coveted a color now as pink was a few years back.”

More Men and Women Traveling To Pop The Question

Another top trend is destination proposals. More men and women are traveling, adding memorable scenery to help commemorate the occasion. “Taking her out of her element, either somewhere exotic or somewhere nearby,” The Knot’s founder, Anja Winikka, adds, is a popular choice.

More Couples Capture The Moment Forever

A growing number of couples are choosing to immortalize the moment with pictures — or sometimes even videos — on social media. “Documenting is so huge. People are hiring a photographer or videographer, or else asking a friend to take pictures,” Winikka continues.

A few words of caution: if you choose to post proposal videos and/or engagement announcements on social media, make sure you have carefully thought it through. There are some people (parents, close relatives, best friends) who will want to hear the news directly from you. These people are likely to be hurt if they find out when you change your Facebook relationship status — or when an over-excited friend accidentally spills the news.

If you are thinking of popping the question, do it right. Know what rings are in style, and consider whether you want to record your destination — or similarly glamorous, but local — proposal. For more information see this.
