People are obsessed with custom tees. In fact, about 62% of Americans claim they own more than 10 tee shirts in their wardrobe, which makes complete sense when you consider the fact that more than 2 billion cheap custom tees are made and sold every year.
Our culture is so obsessed with custom tees that sometimes they even make headlines. Here are a few notable tee shirts that have come out this past summer and have gotten people talking.
Versace’s Hideous World Cup Tee.
Versace offended fans of the World Cup with their special edition shirt for two reasons. First of all, it was hideous. It was painfully vibrant, and dizzyingly busy. Secondly, it was exorbitantly expensive. Versace was selling the awful tee for a whopping £410 or $690. Naturally, it caused quite the outrage on social media.
Putin Graphic Tees.
People in Moscow recently waited two hours in line to get their hands on a new line of graphic tees emblazoned with the Russian Prime Minister’s likeness besides powerful slogans. For over $30 American, or 1250 rubles, shoppers could get a shirt with the political leader in no-nonsense poses supported with phrases like “The Most Polite Man,” or “They’re Not Gonna Get Us.” Even critically acclaimed actor Mickey Rourke got in on the action.
Apparently Kid Shirts.
Viral video “Apparently Kid” captured the hearts of webizens this August and now people are even sporting the natural-born-newscaster’s catchphrase on their shirts. A member of the philanthropic fraternity Shriners International started printing custom tees to sell at the Fair where the video was first taken for just $10 a pop. All proceeds from the shirts go to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
People take their custom tees very seriously. They’ll buy more shirts than they need, read about them on the news, and will even create cheap custom tee shirts for special occasions.
But what’s your take on the subject? Do you think people are obsessed with custom tees, or do you think the situation is a bit out proportion? Feel free to share your opinion in the comments. More research here. This is a great source for more.
